Remembering David and Theo
David and Theo met while studying and working in London in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The immediate post-war years had brought a new optimism, a determination that things must be better in the future.
For David, his early forays into engineering design led him to join one of the first industrial design degree courses in the UK. His fascination with materials, processes, and the conviction that good design should be for everyone laid the foundation for a stellar career in design, design consultancy and education.
Theo’s talents as an artist were apparent from an early age. After the Central School of Art and Design she went on to freelance for Vogue magazine, providing deceptively skilful images of the latest fashions. She produced a remarkable body of work throughout her life, a sample of which we’re delighted to include here.
Family life, County Cork
Aside from their individual achievements, there were so many memorable family moments along the way. Many of these were centred upon the house in County Cork that David and Theo bought in the 1970s and which remains in the family to this day.
